our history

Taking her experience as a product manager, sourcing fast fashion for European brands, Baruna Bhatia founded the Identity Group after developing an interest in children’s fashion during her maternity break. She was surprised to discover that though Bogor had many famous and well established buying agencies, there was lack of serious competition for the kids wear as none of the bigger players wanted to inhabit this space of sharper prices, stringent quality and never ending discussion with manufacturers regarding material and production minimum. It was  an ideal canvas for a young company to start painting on.


To forge ahead and start creating their own unique “Identity”, the team had to devise a simple plan that would make manufacturing a few hundred pieces for the tiny humans interesting for vendors. They introduced the concept of creating garments first and dyeing them later to overcome minimum order limitations. Though this was not a new technique, it was a big change for the factories to implement quality and production systems that would consistently produce high quality garment dyed clothes in all categories. The exacting production and wash processes set up by Identity combined with ability to manage complexity while maintaining an authentic product signature earned Identity a niche in the kids market.


Identity Group owes their success to their unwavering passion for design and their ingenuity has stayed true to this credence.



 

2011

Identity opens it’s first office in Indonesia in the old capital city of Bogor, located at an hour’s drive out of Jakarta

2012

Hong Kong office is set up with an aim to control material sourcing from China

2013

Integrated sampling is set up in-house. The versatile sample room has skilled tailors who can produce jackets, soft woven, denims and activewear

2014

Identity Indonesia becomes the leading agency for kidswear handling garment dye and complex washes in flexible volumes

2015

Vivek Vishal Tuli joins Identity Group as its CEO and launches our growth phase with plans of expansion into new categories and countries

2016

Identity enters into exclusive partnership  with Bintang Group, manufacturer of activewear and lingerie in Central Indonesia

2017/2018

Identity opens it’s Head Office in Singapore and expands into Pakistan and Bangladesh markets for sourcing apparel, active and home textiles.

2019

Identity sets up it’s own office in Bangladesh and a satellite office in India to solidify it’s presence in these key markets.

2020

Identity GmbH is set up in Hamburg Germany to link European Design and market knowledge with manufacturing in real time.

2021

Identity expands into new categories of home furnishings & hunting gear establishing specialized vendors in Indonesia, India and China

2022/2023

Rebounding post Covid, Identity continues to grow European business while adding Asean brands. Looking for localized production into its portfolio
